How a vision became an award-winning innovation

The situation picture application of the St. Gallen Cantonal Police has won the LEADER Digital Award 2021 in the Organization category. The app was developed in cooperation with Online Consulting AG.
In the beginning is the vision
In the interview, Robin Breu reports that the best ideas come about when he has his head free. During sports but also sometimes at night in bed. For this, he has a notebook on the nightstand where he can quickly write down his thoughts. To mirror these visions, he needs a functioning sparring partnership. From innovation to implementation
For Robin Breu, innovation means creativity – creating something new even on the basis of simple technologies and methods. It doesn’t always have to be the great reinvention – simple and pragmatic solutions often already lead to the goal. In the Microsoft 365 environment, these tools are often already available, such as SharePoint.

Solutions do not stand still
Standstill = regression – true to this motto, applications never stand still. There are concrete plans to expand the situation picture application to up to 25 blue-light organizations nationwide. It is already in use in the cantons of Zurich, Lucerne, Thurgau, Basel-Stadt and Graubünden. Neighboring countries have also already knocked on the door and shown interest in this innovation from eastern Switzerland.

The St.Gallen Cantonal Police and Online Consultig AG Wil have developed a digital situation picture application that visually displays all relevant information for police patrols on the move practically in real time. The solution is based on SharePoint and is the central working tool for employees of situation management blue-light organisations. It was awarded the LEADER Digital Award in the field of organisation in 2021.
