Copilot Cowork: Record webinar with over 450 participants shows the future of AI agents

Great interest in agentic AI

Our webinar on May 28, 2026 clearly showed: Copilot Cowork moves companies. With over 450 live participants, the level of interest was exceptionally high. The focus was on the question of how Microsoft Copilot, Copilot Cowork and AI Agents affect day-to-day work. While many companies are still starting out with AI assistance, the next stage of development is already on the horizon: AI agents that not only respond, but also take on tasks, coordinate work steps and keep processes moving over a longer period of time.

From assistant to executive agent

The development into an AI frontier firm is not the same for every company, but it follows a clear pattern. In the first phase, people work with assistance. In the second phase, human-agent teams are created. In the third phase, humans lead while agents carry out tasks. This is exactly where Copilot Cowork comes in. It’s no longer just about formulating individual prompts, but delegating real work. Copilot Cowork plans tasks, uses tools and files, creates content and supports the structured progress of more complex work packages.

Why companies should act now

Our AI Readiness Check with data from over 500 companies also shows that there is a great need for action. 97 percent of companies consider AI to be important for their business. At the same time, 79 percent lack a prioritized list of processes with AI potential. In addition, 82 percent rate the level of employee training in relation to AI as insufficient. These figures show: The interest is there, but many organizations still lack the concrete translation into processes, skills and scalable use cases. This is precisely where Copilot Cowork and AI Agents can make a decisive contribution.

Copilot Wave 3 brings new possibilities to Microsoft 365

An important part of the webinar was dedicated to the innovations around Microsoft Copilot Wave 3. In Word, Copilot supports the creation, revision and summarization of documents. What is particularly exciting is that, thanks to Work IQ, Copilot takes the bigger picture into account and can adapt content more closely to the current work context, deadlines and existing information. In Excel, Copilot helps to create tables, clean up data, perform analyses and create visualizations. The integrations in PowerPoint and Outlook are also more practical: dense content can be displayed more clearly, emails can be improved iteratively and routine decisions in the calendar can be delegated step by step.

Copilot Cowork as a personal AI agent

The actual focus was on Copilot Cowork as a personal AI agent in the company. The webinar showed how Cowork takes on tasks within Microsoft 365, processes information from various sources and generates concrete results from it. These include executive summaries, Word documents, email drafts, FAQ frameworks and preparations for service launches. The decisive factor is that Copilot Cowork does not act in isolation in a chat window, but works in the context of the Microsoft 365 environment. This creates a new working mode in which tasks are not only described, but actively orchestrated.

Observable, controllable and traceable

A key advantage of Copilot Cowork is its transparency. Work steps are made visible, progress can be monitored and results can be checked. This means that people remain responsible. The human in the loop principle is particularly important for sensitive actions such as emails, approvals or decisions. Copilot Cowork can prepare, structure and execute, but humans retain the ability to intervene, adapt or stop actions. This combination of delegation and control is an important prerequisite for professional use in the corporate environment.

Model diversity as a strategic advantage

Another exciting aspect is the increasing variety of models in the Microsoft ecosystem. In addition to OpenAI models, Anthropic Claude models also play an important role. The presentation also revealed that more than 11,000 models for individually developed agents are available via Microsoft Foundry. For companies, this means that in future it will be less about choosing a single model and more about using the right model for the task at hand. Microsoft is thus increasingly developing into a platform that enables the secure and integrated use of different AI capabilities.

Agent 365 creates transparency and control

The more agents are used productively, the more important monitoring, governance and security become. This is exactly where Microsoft Agent 365 comes into play. Agent 365 was categorized in the webinar as network control for agents. It is about monitoring agents in real time, managing their lifecycle and securing them within the company. This includes registration, agent maps, agent analysis, identity and access governance, auditing and logging, data compliance, access control, data security and threat protection. This is crucial for companies so that innovation does not grow uncontrollably, but can scale securely.

Governance remains the basis for trust

Copilot Cowork runs within the Microsoft security, identity and governance structures. This is a key point for companies that not only want to test AI, but also use it productively. Copilot only accesses information to which the respective user is already authorized. Nevertheless, it remains important to maintain existing data structures, authorizations and classifications properly. This is because AI makes existing information architectures more visible. If you have your governance under control, you create the basis for Copilot Cowork to be used securely, comprehensibly and effectively.

What companies should take away from the webinar

The most important insight from the webinar is that Copilot Cowork is more than just a new tool. It is a concrete outlook on how knowledge work will change. In the future, companies will not only chat with AI, but also delegate tasks to agents. This will create new requirements in terms of strategy, empowerment, process thinking and governance. It is crucial to identify specific use cases now, empower employees in a targeted manner and prepare your own Microsoft 365 environment for agent-based work.

Conclusion: Copilot Cowork makes the next step visible

With over 450 live participants, our record-breaking webinar showed just how much interest there is in Copilot Cowork and AI Agents. The key message: companies need to ask themselves not whether agent-based AI will become relevant, but how they can use it sensibly, safely and measurably. Copilot Cowork shows where the journey is heading: away from pure assistance and towards genuine delegation. People lead, agents execute. This is precisely where the potential for the next stage of digital transformation lies.
