Workation – Working where others go on vacation
Flexible working has long been a reality at Online. Whether with customers, working from home, on the road, in the office or at one of our 4 locations in Switzerland, Germany and Poland. But what if you want to combine vacation with work? Workation combines “work” with “vacation” and allows you to be productive while discovering a new environment.
We are gathering experience on how Workation can be optimally integrated into our day-to-day work. Our colleague Jessica Mylius is currently testing this way of working first-hand – in England.
Productive working – even remotely
Although Jessica is not really a big fan of working from home, she quickly got used to working remotely during her first week in Cambridge – and was pleasantly surprised. The distractions were minimal and she was able to concentrate fully on her tasks. Thanks to regular video calls with the team, she continued to feel part of Online. Our corporate culture has proven itself here: The exchange worked seamlessly, even at a distance.
Four-legged colleagues and a healthy routine
A special aspect of Jessica’s workation: she looks after a family’s dogs. The four-legged companions not only kept her company, but also helped her to maintain a fixed daily routine. The morning and afternoon walks provided exercise and fresh air – a clear advantage over the traditional home office, where the step count often remains alarmingly low.

Cambridge – a city full of history and charm
In addition to work, there was enough time to discover the city. Cambridge impressed Jessica with its historic universities and vibrant student culture. She found the British street food and traditional pub culture particularly exciting – even on a Monday evening, the city was full of life. A very different atmosphere to Switzerland, where things are usually quieter during the week.

Conclusion: A successful first week
Jessica looks back on a successful first week of Workation. The combination of effective work, new impressions and nature has worked well for her. She is now moving on to London, where she will be a full-time tourist for a week – before returning to work.
