Workation in London – Jessica’s experiences and learnings

Welcome back, Jessy!

Jessica is back from her workation in London and we are excited to hear what she has to say. What made her decide to travel to the British capital and how did the experience affect her work and well-being?

Why London?

Jessica had a very special reason for choosing London as a place to work: She comes from England herself and wanted to spend more time there again. “It was nice to be back and rediscover the city,” she says enthusiastically.

Planning and support

Jessica tackled the organization of the workation several months in advance. She received support from her team: Jenny helped with communication and the procedure, while Roland and Fabian clarified the technical aspects. Jessica took care of the accommodation and leisure planning herself.

Preparation and first impressions

“I couldn’t really believe it mentally until I was actually there.”

Although she had organized herself well in advance, she was surprised at how uncomplicated everything went in the end. However, she did have one concern: would working remotely be as productive as in the office? But these concerns were quickly dispelled – the work went even better than expected.

Working in London – focused and motivated

Jessica was particularly focused during the workation. “I don’t tend to take breaks when I’m working alone,” she admits. Her workplace was mainly her apartment, but she also used a coworking space for a change. “The mixture of working at home and the occasional change of scenery was ideal,” she says. The new environment was particularly motivating: “Always seeing something new and establishing a new routine was good.”

The time difference of one hour was not a problem – on the contrary: Jessica started the day earlier and was therefore able to explore the city after work. The technical infrastructure worked perfectly, so online meetings were also possible without any problems.

Leisure and recreation

Jessica has also mastered the work-life balance well. “I planned my tasks in advance to make sure nothing got left undone,” she explains. After work, she enjoyed London’s parks and the special flair of the city. One highlight was spending time with a childhood friend who now lives in London.

Social contacts and team spirit

Jessica met new people in the city rather than in the coworking spaces. The exchange with the team at home went smoothly – it felt like working from home. Nevertheless, there were moments when she missed the relaxed conversations in the office.

Conclusion: Productive and motivated back

The workation has paid off for Jessica – both professionally and personally. “I’ve noticed that the new environment has given me a real motivation boost,” she says. At the same time, she has also learned to appreciate office life again.

“You sometimes forget how good the atmosphere and the colleagues are when you’re there every day.”

What advice does Jessica have for others who are planning a workation?

  • Stay realistic: A workation is not a vacation week – you get less done than you thought.
  • Good communication: Clarify all relevant points with the team in advance.
  • Check the technology: WLAN availability and hardware should be checked at an early stage.

Would she do it again? Definitely – but perhaps more as a vacation extension somewhere warm.
